Mexico Celebrates Independence - September 15-16

@Thierry Masson: I was born and raised in the US and know what it is like to live in fear that the mushroom cloud would rise over the distance. Some today feel it was all a sham to subject the populace politically, but I once read of plans revealed after the Soviet collapse proving how the Russians had plans to overtake Germany and surrounding areas within three to five days. This would ave allowed them to mount momentum towards the rest of Europe while NATO scrambled forces and counter-attacked. Funny how this idea of a WWIII still won't go away in modern times.

México is simply reaping the whirlwind of years of injustice, corruption, and inequality. The military here is a scary concept because it exists to keep social order instead of defending the nation from outside forces. Mexicans tend to complain about foreigners and how they exploit and take away the nation's riches, yet it is Mexican families --of the elite-- that have control of the political and economic life in Mexico. Upward social mobility is a myth in this country and unregulated capitalist policies have pushed many down instead of prosperity and equity. Mexico is a free market, but those who have. This is my sad assessment of the socio-political and economic environment in Mexico. Right now I am more concerned about the economic woes in a country highly dependent on foreign open immigration policies and the export of dwindling oil supplies. It's a shame that Mexican political and business leaders did nothing to nurture the national economy while things were going well.
